Lush Nightclub & Lounge

After neglecting all of you...or none of you (hehe)...I've put together this post to let you in on my life, and what I've been up to lately.  As an interior design senior at the CITA accredited interior design school of Michigan State University, I've been working on my senior thesis for the last year of my life...literally.  I haven't done too much else outside of the project because I always felt like every other designer had so much better work than I did, and that my portfolio would one day amount to a booklet of "crappy drawings" that would never win...After several emotional breakdowns, countless amounts of "all-nighters," and BP-gas station coffee, I've now become an interior designer - not just a kid in college wandering for a spot in the light.  This last year, I've grown more personally than professionally - and that's totally okay as the nerd that raised his hands all 4 years in the design program, pestering profs and students for more information.

I almost had to fake it to make it at first - when I say that, I mean...design was fun, but I didn't know it was my passion.  As I had to get up everyday for class, which was far worse than class itself, and bike through countless snow storms and rain falls, I learned what it was like to experience the horror stories everyone had warned me about college years before.  I, however, didn't seem to care then, as I was one of those who breezed through high school - regrettably, sometimes not even sober.  After buckling down years later, after first starting the design program at MSU, I had to "get my ass in gear or go home."  Sometime had to give.  I was going to be RADAMS, the party asshole Novi loved and hated, or the person I deserved to be - the person I had been wanting to be my whole life.  As time went on, I noticed I didn't have to fake being this prim and proper design student anymore...it was beginning to all seem quite natural.  Not the content - the content was always conquerable, coming from Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Biotechnology a year before (my original majors upon entry into MSU) - but the mannerisms, unofficial dress codes, and above all, personal interests.

I noticed that I was beginning to become a much better designer, and that my eyes were becoming more adventurous and intrigued by the world around me.  I began getting obsessed with gaining knowledge of anything I deemed interesting off the top of my head - if I thought of, say, alien propulsion anti-gravity devices, my nerd-ass would literally go and research it until I gained the level of knowledge I was looking for; inevitably, I stumbled across other interests while seeking other answers to other interests, and so my life goes on...Getting back to the project...I have solidified my standing as an interior designer, both personally and professionally, to my friends, my colleagues, my family, and my wonderful professors.  I do not, however, take responsibility for all of my successes thus far, as I couldn't have ever made it this far without any of those I've just listed.

After cleaning up my egocentrism, my relative lack of knowledge, my mannerisms, my life, and my values, I've enjoyed being me this past year.  This project is as much me, as my body that defines me.  I hope my project and I will both go down someday a success story - for now, at least I have one portfolio piece I'm very proud of.  It is my honor to present to you my senior thesis project - Lush Nightclub & Lounge (Copy Written 2012): [CLICK ON PHOTO TO ENLARGE]

IDEATION, FRUSTRATION, & IMAGINATION:

PRETTY TYPICAL EVENING...PLAYING WITH SAMPLES (NOT ALL THE SAMPLES SHOWN MADE IT TO FINAL END-USE)

I WANTED TO JUST LIE & CRACK A JOKE THAT THAT SOCK IN THE PHOTO WAS MY INSPIRATION FOR MY SENIOR THESIS PROJECT @ MSU, & HOW I PULLED MY PROJECT FROM ITS FORM & "RICH DECAY"

3AM THE NIGHT BEFORE THE PRESENTATION (WHICH ITSELF WAS AT 9AM) - 4/26/12

HOW I PERSONALLY LIKE TO STORE MY SAMPLES - ONLY HERE, MY SAMPLE STORAGE LOOKS LIKE HELL (NIGHT BEFORE PROJECT WAS DUE) - STORAGE IS EMPTY!  I NOW HAVE OVER 10,000 SAMPLES, RANGING FROM FLOORING, TO INNOVATIVE CEILING TREATMENTS, TO LUMINAIRE FINISHES...& SOME THAT ARE SO NEW I DON'T QUITE KNOW WHAT TO CALL THEM YET...

I'M NORMALLY NOT THIS MESSY!  I SWEAR! =)

EVERYTHING SPRAWLED OUT ACROSS THE ENTIRE LIVING ROOM...

YUP...TOLD YA ;)

WHAT EXTREME PRESSURE LOOKS LIKE THE NIGHT BEFORE...

GETTING TO BE ABOUT THAT TIME (7:45 AM - MORNING OF PRESENTATION, AFTER 2 HOURS OF SLEEP - NO UNEXPECTED ERRORS [SHOCKING, ALTHOUGH I WAS PREPARED FOR ANYTHING AT THIS POINT TO THROW ME FOR A LOOP...])

THIS PHOTO REALLY MEANS A LOT TO ME, BECAUSE SITTING NEAR THE CURRENT PROJECT I WAS GOING TO PRESENT (LUSH NIGHTCLUB & LOUNGE AT THE TOP OF THE PHOTO) THE MORNING THE PHOTO WAS TAKEN WAS THE ORIGINAL NIGHTCLUB IDEA - LITERALLY "5 AESTHETICS AGO, FROM ROUGHLY 9 MONTHS BEFORE".
